Welcome To The North Texas Golf School

CHAD NEWLIN

Chad Newlin received his PGA membership in 1993. However, shortly afterward  Chad learned he had “Multiple Sclerosis” that prevented him from continuing his life-long dream of playing the game of golf.

In 1994 Chad started North Texas School of Golf in Carrollton, Texas. He spent the next five years developing young pros, successful amateurs, and nationally ranked juniors, with their golf games. His passion for teaching was instilled in him by his long time instructor Mr. Harvey Penick. The most important thing he learned from Mr. Penick about teaching the game of golf was to be simple, direct, and practical. These methods have proven to produce major champions Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, Sandra Palmer and Chad’s own daughter, who won the Texas state individual titles in 2007 and 2010.

Although, Chad’s ability to play golf every day has been impaired by his health, his vision to help others with their own golf game has always been a great desire of his. Stewart Peninsula has given him the opportunity to fulfill that desire.

Chad believes that some of the best lessons he got from Mr. Penick, were playing lessons and work that they got accomplished on the golf course. Therefore with the opportunity to have North Texas School of golf at Stewart at Peninsula, all his lessons will be playing lessons or on the course instruction, as long as it is feasible.

Mr. Penick passed on his golf knowledge, because he loved to see pupils improve. Chad wants to do the same thing.

GARY J. HURT
Class "A" PGA Professional

Born and raised in Nelson Nebraska.  Attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney where I received a BS Degree in Sports Management, 1989.

Started my career in North Carolina in 1989 and received my Class "A" Membership in 1994.  During the past 21 years, I've had the priveledge of working at some of the finest private clubs along the East coast from New York, Baltimore, Savannah to Florida.  Worked as an Assistant Golf professional for ten years, later spent 8 years as a Head Golf Professional and for the past three years Assistant Store Manager at The PGA Tour Superstore in Plano Texas.

During my career i was able to learn about the golf swing from studying, watching, attending teaching workshops and taking golf lessons from fellow PGA Professionals.  What I learned is that no two people swing the same.  I don't look to overhaul your swing, I look to take what you have and build from that.  No matter what level you are, creating a sound foundation through basic foundamentals is the key to building a consistent, long lasting golf motion that will allow you to play the great game for the rest of your life.

Depending on your level, all areas of the game will be covered:  putting, short game(chipping, pitching, bunkers), full swing Irons & woods as well as on course instruction.  As one advances and the fundamentals are in place, focus will become more on path/clubface as it relates to ball flight, greenside specialty shots, trouble shots, advanced course management, developing a pre shot routine, the mental side of playing smart golf, preperation for tournaments and developing a practice routine centered around drills.

I look forward to working with each and every one of you helping you build a swing that will last a lifetime.
